This year, the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly took place from 12th-25th September.The theme of the general debate this year is “Focusing on people: striving for peace and a decent life for all on a sustainable planet”.
AID:Tech CEO, Joseph Thompson, was invited to participate in a series of events including the SDG Media Zone, to discuss AID:Tech’s role in advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. He was also formally recognised as the 2017 SDG Pioneer for Blockchain technology at the event.

At the Media Zone, Joseph joined Lise Kingo, CEO of United Nations Global Compact, Ms. Teresa Jennings, Ms. Sonia Bashir Kabir and Ms. Tania Conte Cosentino to discuss the role of private sector in achieving the SDGs.
The assembly is one of the six main organs of the United Nations, the only one in which all Member States have equal representation: one nation, one vote. All 193 Member States of the United Nations are represented in this unique forum to discuss and work together on a wide array of international issues covered by the UN Charter, such as development, peace and security, international law, etc. In September, all the Members meet in the General Assembly Hall in New York for the annual General Assembly session.
